Fantastic work and fabrication there !? Assuming the body will fit over that without too much issue ?

I hope so Mo. There is a surprising amount of space under the bus especially once you have cut the fuel tank bulkhead out. The critical issue comes down to one dimension and tat is the clearance between the distributor cap and the engine lid. That sets all other dimensions for positioning longitudinally and the torque shaft and floor cross member clearance sets the height. So hostage to those dimensions everything else falls where it falls.

Interesting as im going to locate my tank where the tool box is precisely for that reason loads of room. Just working on the gear linkage as running cables hopefully !?

With a modified rear bulkhead, I've mocked up a 60L tank that sits in front of the 3.2...waiting to here if it fits!

so work today was on the rear sub frame mounting points. Slowly getting toward the back of the bus!

Once you start putting your floor in and building up your interior (bulkheads etc), you can make some space for a fuel tank by eating into the dead space behind the rear seat.

One thing to consider is where your fuel filler neck is going to run, mine needs to go right where the chassis brace is... So going to have to go round it, which will make filling an arse.

Thanks for the tip elrao.

Some more work today on the sub frame mounting points and the engine rails for the rear engine mount.

I have built the engine rail arms so they will pick up with there inner face of the rear wheel tub and i can put a few supporting welds along.

Your deep in now, looking good!
I thought that bit of support steel in the stern was called a reverse dihedral lunge scabbard but I am in California.

What is your projected stance?

@67dubcab 'I thought that bit of support steel in the stern was called a reverse dihedral lunge scabbard but I am in California'

I think that is the American name for it, over here we call it a 'flange'..............

If by projected stance you mean completion date then i am hoping for a few years before fossil fuel is outlawed and i have to convert to electricity.

Front Suspension

Post by john&hannah » Fri May 17, 2019 6:48 am

So the ongoing conundrum is the front suspension. It has to be the 964 hubs and sub frame which presents a problem with the strut as the 964 strut is about 2m's long and although i could weld the top mounting point on the roof i don't think H would like sharing the front seat with a coil over (don't see the problem myself, some of the anodised blistien stuff looks great). The option to shorten the strut does not work as the shorter the strut the more movement at the top mounting point when the hub turns during steering and it becomes a cluster of angles and unwanted stresses on the joint.

So my current thinking is thus..........

To use a top wishbone set up and then pick the strut bottom mount up from the lower control arm.....

I will need to pick the top wishbone mounting point up from the original strut mounting point and fab an arm that brings the pick up point up to the top centre of the hub (this means that when the hub turns the wishbone remains in a neutral position and only has to deal with vertical movement as it should). When i say it quickly it all seems very simple.

Some more fabrication today, less grinding and more welding.
