It Ain't Paint!! - It's a Wrap.....

Post by orb » Wed Sep 30, 2009 6:05 pm

Hi All
Just thought you might be interested in what I've been up to today.
I should start with a bit of background.
My business partner bought a very nice splitty recently but was annoyed that where the previous owner had some paint repairs done the colour didn't quite match. Having been quoted £3000 by a bodyshop to put it right he decided to try another route - Vinyl Wraps

A friend owns Boss Dog Graphics and spends his days wrapping rather more mundane vans but the principal is the same so why not try and brighten up his bus.
What he did will not be to everyones taste but bare in mind that the image was chosen from http://www.dreamstime.com/ and then printed onto the vinyl so you can have any design or colour combination you like - and I mean anything!

So if you fancy a Prosign style Hibiscus roof, or a union jack, or an iron cross, or camo, or, or, or.....the sky's the limit.

Here are some before, during and nearly after shots (nearly as I had to leave before it was finished)
Here is the bus with the lights, handles, bumpers etc removed ready to start work.
Image
You can see better in this shot the mis-matching paint on the door

Offering up the first side

It looks a bit wrinkly here but it's amazing how "workable" this high quality vinyl is
Image
Smoothing out the wrinkles and bubbles
Image
Cutting the vents - we wondered how these would come out and they were excellent.
Image
Starting to take shape
Image
Both side done, lights and bumper back on
Image
The arse end of the job!

Nearly done!

Like I said, I had to leave before it was finished but I'll update this as and when I can get some more pictures - or come and see it at Brighton Breeze on Saturday if you're interested.

Any questiosn? - ask away or speak to Luca at Boss Dog http://www.bossdog.co.uk/

For a bottom half like this in any design or colour you desire is £900 - That includes the design (there's a bit more too it than meets the eye), the materials and this stuff isn't cheap, the skills needed to fit it and the insurance that if a £300 panel gets screwed up during fitting you're not footing that bill - I helped with the fitting today but having seen it done I wouldn't be brave enough to try it - there is an art to getting it to follow all the contours of the body, doing the returns and shrinking bits of it to fit (just look at things like the cargo door and divers door cut outs and the engine bay vents - fascinating to watch)

Any green ya like Joe - there isn't a colour you can't have as it's printed on.

It's guaranteed against fading for 5 years - remember this is used to wrap commercial vehicles so it's very hard wearing. It's really hard to tear it when you're putting it on and I would guess almost impossible once fitted - but at the end of the day if someone keys it it'll do as much damage as you would to paint.

I cab see some nice pink flowers on Debs Figaro too
