Gearbox advice

I'm putting in a creative IRS setup and I wanted to get the best gearbox for this set up. The van will mostly be for burning around Cornwall so not really for those long motorway journeys, however I like the sound of keeping the revs down and the engine cool (i'm not really sure thats how you keep a AC engine cooled).
Its a 75 fleetline, but I will be using a Bay window IRS conversion set up with a 1776 twin carb engine.
Any suggestions or knowledge anyone can pass on I will be very grateful.

Hi, I take it you already have an IRS? If not I have one for sale and am in Cornwall.

Ive got the IRS, Ive also had a few discussions with people and as I will be mainly poodling around Cornwall in the bus. I have been told a freewheel flyer or the 3.88 ratio gear would be annoying as I would constantly be tweaking back and forth from 3rd to 4th up the hills.
So its a straight axle IRS, normal 4.125 ratio gearing with a 1776 engine

Hi.
I had a 1776 with irs in my split with a dc code gearbox (type 3)..is seemed spot on.

SA and IRS are two completely different systems.

IMHO I wouldn't fit the Bay based IRS.

If you're not looking for high motorway speeds, your current setup is fine. Actually your bus will accelerate slower / work harder up hills with the IRS.
