Early bay brake drums on a splitty

Post by BigRob » Tue Jul 02, 2019 7:58 pm

Hi all

I’ve been looking at early bay brake drums for my splitty,
I understand that the spindles are different. Mine are stepped and the early bays are tapered (correct me if I’m wrong please). Does anyone know if if the drums meant for the tapered ones would fit on the stepped ones?

The reason I want to do this is a have some alloys I want to put on her and they won’t go over the current drums.

Its a year change. Yours are early's / later are different. Bay are slightly different again but can be used with conversion parts.

What sort of conversion parts would I need? Could I just change the bearings, or is it a bit more complicated?

You can't. Yours are earlies.

You can only make them fit on later spindles with a conversion, but it's pointless as they don't give any benefits over stock late split brakes.
