Flipped spindle O-ring size....?

Post by SplitMind » Sat May 04, 2019 7:30 pm

Hi guys, does anyone know the correct size o-rings to fit in place of the stock seals for flipped spindles?

I need to order some up before taking my spindles for rebuilding as the rings have split...

Thanks in advance

Thanks, but I’m actually looking to fit o-rings not the standard seals for better fitment on flipped spindles.

So it looks like the feedback on the JK post is wrong!

28mm ID is way too small....have found other posts here referencing 38mm ID, which seems more likely.....https://www.ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=108100

I’ve ordered 38ID x 5mm rings from polymax, who were super helpful.

Will let you know how they fit after the weekend hopefully!

It's taken a while to get around to doing my spindles, for a number of reasons - not least that I couldn't press the darned things apart, even with help from Dave at Kingfisher Kustoms....they were super tight!! Nonetheless, with help from Simon the kingpin wizard in Malvern they DID come apart, and he's done a great job for me changing the seals....but back to the point....

These 38x5mm o-rings were TOO BIG....they were a loose fit, especially around the middle spacer. True we could have used them, but they didn't sit right and I would say that the correct o-ring size for my (genuine German) spindles would have to have an ID of 37mm, although the 5mm thickness is probably right.

So I've used genuine VW seals in the end and will see how they go....very mixed reports on whether they will last or not it seems....
