Clutch clearance issue

Post by smudger73 » Mon Jan 07, 2019 7:39 pm

Hello folks, need a bit of advice, building a 1965 rhd panel van, fitted an H code beetle gearbox with a 1641 engine, fitted a standard clutch assembly with the correct release bearing but have clearance issues when trying to adjust the clutch, far to much travel between the bearing and pressure plate, am I missing something here, should there be a plate on the fingers of the pressure plate or have i just bought the wrong clutch
Cheers
Paul

I’m in the process of fitting beetle engine to my 75 splitscreen; the clutch should match the release bearing so believe it should be 200mm with centre pad.

Cheapest kit I could find was cool air VW, not German quality but I thought worth a try:

Have you run out of adjustment on the clutch cable then?

Cheers lads, aye, ran out of adjustment, a lot of travel before the bearing hits the pressure plate

Yes it sounds like you need a cover plate with the centre pad fitted.... did yours have one?

I fitted the later style pressure plate with the early release bearing
