Hi. I managed to pick up a reconditioned starter motor today. The guy told me that I should replace the bushing which sits in the gearbox housing to which the starter rod sits in. Unfortunately he doesn’t supply bushings . I had a look at the existing bushing and there is no sign of obvious wear so I fitted the new starter and hey presto the van started ok. After some research I have found that bushings come in different diameters. My bus has an IRS Gearbox... presumably from a beetle? I have no idea what age the gearbox is. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this issue. What size bushing I would need ? Are they standard size or how can I find out what size I will need? I would like to replace it soon. Kind regards Nicky

There are four bushes.

6v
12v
12v starter in an 6v gearbox
6v starter in a 12v gearbox

As the gearbox is IRS is going to be a 12v gearbox
If your starter is a 12v model then that's your answer.
