Mark,

regarding AIR. I'd go for a controller system with height sensors.

There are three ways of doing it. No sensors at all, air pressure sensors and height sensors.

The tracking along with the camber and caster angles change on each corner as the suspension height changes. If you don't have any sensors, you'll never be able to put the Bug back to its driving height where the tracking etc is set correctly.

Pressure sensors remember the pressure required to hold the Bug at a set height. But, they can't allow for different loads. ie you'd be setting up the suspension when its empty, then put four passengers in and is heavier, so the default pressure has the Bug sitting lower, so your tracking is different to how you set it empty.

Where as height sensors remember the height, and put whatever pressure is required to maintain the same height regardless of load. So the suspension adjust is always bang on.

It'll cost more, but I've seen the difference between no sensors / pressure sensors / height sensors and is night and day.

tracking/castor camber issues can be engineered out but it's a hell of a lot of work, if you convert to IRS and run the bags directly to the arms then the rear wheels move up and down almost straight, for the front it requires converting to rack and pinion steering with the steering imput rod triangulated to one side and a rod going from one ball joint to the oposite one that way as you rise and fall the wheels stay parallel(you end up notching out the frame head though once aproaching normal beetle height my chassis and shell only cost me £200 so chopping it up isn't an issue, if you want any pictures i will hapily send them you)so can be done but if you are going to be using sensors then set up geometry at driving height and live with a little tyre ware when you're 3 wheeling round the carpark. i just couldn't warant the expense as 3 projects on the go and workshop to pay for so mines going to be manual system. keep up the good work mark going great.:-)

Hi Mark.

No I don't have any links to current systems on the market. I remove far more kits than I install, so I don't follow who's brought out new versions. Next one to be removed is coming out in January.

Yo

Resto police all over me !!!     I love the pressure :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Sorry for slow updates been having a few eye problems ... and those of you in the know .... Will know I only have one eye that works from birth

So I got or thought I got arck eye the other week ,,,, it came and went ... but a few days after I could feel dirt in my eye and thought it was just the arck eye ..... well it got better and everything was fine .... then I woke up with a red eye and thought WTF so decided to pop to hospital to get it checked out
48387517_10216352408235674_6974828675963289600_n.jpg
48385754_10216352407835664_4857498331196162048_n.jpg
48376960_10216352408035669_6682764414434672640_n.jpg
So the good new is theres nothing in my eye and they think I rubbed my eye when asleep and damged the repairing eyeball from the other weeks damage ..... Anyway I got drops to do every two hours and for two days and they think it will be fine     Fingers crossed :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Any way a little update on the beetle ..... started welding the pans in and they fit sweeeeeeeeeet
47688054_10216308044766615_8630749429990686720_n.jpg
Then I ran out of Mig wire 70% through the second pan ggggrrrrrrrr .... got the wire the next day    .. thank you BOC ... so all the pans are welded in
47689117_10216308044846617_3984275722653925376_n.jpg

So pans all done I stripped the spine all ready for the sand blasters and also the shell is 100% stripped so the next step is samnd blast then all     then eproxy primer everything then get the chassis / pans all painted ..... Could be normal and go BLACK or could be differant and go Red same as shell colour :compress: :compress:

so when stripping the chassis I found the beetle to be someones storage over the last few years ...... image him little face when the beetle ws gone and his was wanting his NUT's

48371707_10216318791435275_6413083168810729472_n.jpg
48384141_10216318791795284_8615384064230162432_n.jpg

So I dont feel like I'll get much done on the beetle until after Xmas ..... I'll be waiting for the sandblasters to come get the spine and the shell

So we await for that day to happen
