Add 2 stroke oil to fuel???

Post by thedowlers » Sun Aug 12, 2018 9:42 am

Hi everybody,

I’ve been on the road with my 1961 Splitscreen. As you possibly all have experienced there’s always someone along the way, who claims to be an expert. So I met another expert, who told me that adding a tiny bit of 2 stroke oil to the fuel works a real treat. He seems to have a pretty good idea but before a whack some in, I thought I ask you guys.

Opinions?

Thanks, Tati

How tiny is 'a tiny bit' and what does he think it does?

Just a cap and apparently it makes the engine run smoother.

That's new to me. Wonder what it's meant to do vs what it actually does.

I can't see it doing anything. A cap full in a tank of petrol isn't going to make any noticeable difference, especially as it would all get burnt away in the cylinder. Might make you a tiny bit smoky at the exhaust but with so little going in it would be next to nothing.

Thanks for your input. Apparently these engines are designed to run “rich” and it would make a major difference. I remember we used to put Lead additives with the fuel way back then. So it got me thinking...

I mix 3% fully synthetic in my lambretta’s and vespa’s but they are 2 strokes and it lubricTes the pistons

Outing a capful in 30+ litres would make no difference IMO
