Is it worth upgrading my carb ???

Post by boardman411 » Sun Jun 10, 2018 6:58 pm

Hi All,

Just thought I'd get some opinons/advice from the people in the known.. Today, I have 1600TP, Solex 34 PIC 3 carb, Accuspark SVDA Dizzy - good compression, spark plugs good.. Everything on the engine checks out so far and has been reliable.. I'm thinking off possibly upgrading to a 1776 in the future, and will need some new carbs as well to go with the update.

I was thinking should I buy some 34 ict's or some Weber 40's IDF's now that I can run on my 1600tp to give a bit more performance now & then re-jet at a latter date to suit the 1776.. Is anyone running 36ict's on a 1600TP or even 40's.. Is it worth going to 40's or just sticking with the 34 ict's..

Would be good to here what people think.

Shaun...

I would stick with what you have if it is reliable and then get all new when you upgrade.

its always good to run twin carbs. I'm running kadrons which are twin 40's but Webbers are easier to work on.

my set up is 1600 twin port engine with twin kadrons, gearbox is ah code irs beetle box so the final drive is 4.125.

I can sit at 70 at just over 3000rpm

I also have installed a brake servo to my original drum brakes which work really well.

before you rebuild your engine you need to work out what speed you want to travel at and what gearbox work you need to do first which limits your speed not the engine.

what gearbox are you running?

I'm running a straight axle - not sure what gearbox I have.. I've found two numbers whilst lying underneath..

I think one is the part no.
113 301 103

And the second, not sure about

6327 464 or 637 464
