Double Door project.

Post by Brothernumberone » Sun Mar 11, 2018 11:00 am

Hello. This is my '66 double door Swedish bus which I'm restoring. It's spent quite a bit of time in a field, hence the lichen;)

It's very rusty in the middle, but strangely not at the front or rear. I had some chassis sections made up and replaced the middle bits. Used Schofields's panels for the sections from just behind the beam back to the front outriggers. Made up the reinforcement bit on the inside of the chassis just behind the outriggers.

A few more pics and an update. Not had a lot of time due to paid work getting in the way, but now that the chassis sound again, I've started on the rest. Bulkhead bottom edge repaired, then new top hats and cross members and heater tube.
'Box and shafts out to get the shift rod out so I can replace the shift rod guide tube and also replace the nose cone which is snapped. Presumably because someone's jacked the van up on the 'box.

That looks great. What are you plans for the exterior, full resto or leave as is?

Cheers! Not sure on paint yet, will get it welded and drivable first, then maybe I'll paint it at a later date.

Been a bit busy with customer stuff recently so I've only just got back on this. Got the cargo floor down, Wolfsburg West panels are ace!

Decided to get the van back on its wheels before starting on door gaps, so cleaned and painted the gearbox and axle which were out from when I did the shift rod guide tube. One drum wouldn't shift so had to improvise a puller using a sacrificial knackered wheel 😉

With the van back on the ground, I got started on the sides. New b and c pillars, rear arch, outer sill and strengthener, and cargo door bottoms.
