Sperrwolf BUS barrel and keys needed

Post by Fuch77 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 3:32 pm

Hello folks I am trying to find some keys and a barrel for a late bus Sperrwolf gear shiftier lock.
I can find some for Bugs Ghias and Variants and for ignition locks but am having trouble finding some for the good old bus.
Can anyone be really helpful and point me in the right direction please? (it is better is they are Uk based.)

If you do not have a barrel or key to copy look on thesamba.com..
Aftermarket VW locking CSL keys were made by Borkey..
If you hunt for a thread about these on thesamba.com..
I was hunting for key blanks for a WASO CSL lock.. a US poster directed me to an US eBay seller who sells keys for everthing.
I got exactly the blanks I needed..

but a barrel .... I know miles was hunting but believe he gave up..

I gave up trying to find one. I ended up selling what I had.

I wish a previous owner hadn't butchered the barrel......

Off topic.

I have two WASO CSLs.
One had no plate but had the lock and a very badly bent and mangled but operational key.. The other was complete with the key sheared off but still visible in the lock.
I bought one for parts off ebay and the other from Corey Bloom from thesamba.com. Corey said the lock had the key end visible and it was still in the condition he had recovered it from a vehicle. He had not attempted to remove the broken key.
As those who know me.. will attest, I love a challenge and I am a problem solver.. I worked in Auto manufacturing and then in research and then project management as a procurement person... I still am working.
I intended to make one good one from two..
I searched for a plate and bought one from Thailand via ebay.
RESULT.
My friendly local locksmith flattened said bent key whilst I searched the world for blanks for him to recut.
As an apprentice at Longbridge I had worked recovering vehicles on site which had been parked up without visible build data. How do you identify a key number for a mini with no number plate or build card which is all locked up?
So accessing vehicles and removing column locks and broken keys from locks was included in my skill set..
Very usefull it has been over the years.
I used my locksmith's tool making and breaking and entering kit and removed the broken end from the lock. Lock picking tools c/o ebay from China.
I then got some Borkey blanks from a US eBay seller.. Lucky I was.
I now have two working WASO CSLs

WASO Change Speed Lever Lock

Whilst reading thesamba.com thread about the Westy I learned about the WASO CSL lock to fit a bus.

Still looking for the grey boot...anyone/ All the ones I have seen or found are black?
OG one or source for repro grey? NOT BLACK...

I found one on thesamba.com with a broken off key inside it. I bought it and then used my lock picking kit.....oops...(must not give too much away!) to extract the broken bit, then I got my locksmith friend to make me a key blank to fit which worked but was bit too short.
Then I hunted on the samba and asked if any one had any...all the usual suppliers did not have a WASO blank but I found a reply which led me to buy some Borkey blanks from eBay Us.

So this is what it looks like.. Blasted and painted.

I have also fitted a CSL extension cos as a Family we are tall and a quick shift plate and have yet to check that the two will work together...

THEY DO NOT!

Found CSL would not fit with quick shift plate..but the CSL does shorten the travel...so result
Quick shift now fitted to Dave's Beetle..

Well i finally got the sperrwolf fixed and back in the van after 28 year !
It took three company's.
One to mend the snapped case and chrome the parts. Another to re key the barrel. Last one to paint it in chinchilla grey.
But im really happy with how it turned out. thanks to all that advised me with it. x
