Can anyone recommend a paint shop in/near Surrey?

Post by edd » Sat Jan 25, 2014 11:28 pm

Hi,

Firstly, this is my first post here, so hi!

I have a 1967 LHD 13 window and have applied to become a SSVC member...I think the application is still pending.

I had a bit of a nightmare over Christmas...my van got flooded, while parked in the garage :( Water came up to the wheels and I'm currently going through a large-ish insurance claim. Anyway, the interiors gotta come out, as well as quite a few bits that have deteriorated badly. I thought I'd take this opportunity to, probably, IRS it and get it painted up (in original titan red). It's at a local VW specialist right now but they don't do paint jobs.

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get a full respray near Guildford? I'm keen to have it ready for July time for perhaps another trip to France in it...I realise this isn't always a speedy process though. I'm not bothered about show quality paint, but obviously a decent job.

Let me know if anyone has any recommendations, otherwise it'll just be me choosing a random company and hoping for success! Also, apologies if there are thousands of posts already like this - I did search but didn't find much.

Thanks :D

You're fine posting where you feel fit, it'll be moved to the appropriate place if deemed necessary. Firstly welcome along and gutted for you also. Don't know personally of paint shops local to you but if someone else does then be sure they'll let you know. Out of curiosity does it have to be local? I mean for a transport cost would it open up the options more, especially if its insurance job. I only say that as I live in North Wales and if I was in the same situation I'd have to go further afield.

Yes I can recommend Darren Mills in Shepperton. Tel: 07976 534793
He is a perfectionist and has done some paint work for me. Highly recommended.

I second that, Darren is a true artist and a lovely guy too.
You can see some of his work on my thread here - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83338

I'm up the road from you in New Malden if you want to see the work first hand

Thanks a lot all, that's perfect.

@bettleben, you're right, if I can't find anyone local that can do it in time I'll start searching further afield...but this guy Darren sounds hopeful :)

I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if he can help me out, thanks again.

@orb - I had a read of your restoration thread, and have a quick question; I have a deluxe trim that's OG but looking quite scruffy. You mentioned that you wire brushed it I think, and then polished..? Is that right? How can I tidy it up to match the new paint? I had considered just buying a new trim but they're pretty costly!

Cheers.

Hey there
Yes, the trim was wire brushed but not polished as I wanted it dull like the paint.
You can polish your originals up but I'd recommend farming it out as it's a ***** of a job but much better than the repros when done
