Apologies for the lack of photos and updates, I’m pressing like mad to get or ready for the trip to Ninove on the 15th March.

So going back a few weeks and after another rejection about retaining the original number plate from the DVLA I decided to give up for a while and just get it registered, so I sent a pile of information off after carefully reading the information online and guess what I got rejected for that too!

They say I need to pay a fee (their website says not required for previously registered vehicles), that I need to put it on the HMRC NOVA system and that the dating information I provided wasn’t the originals, so I resubmitted it with the fee and having applied for NOVA and got another rejection, so last Friday, having checked it is now on NOVA I sent it off again, I really hope it goes through this time.

Anyway back to the interesting bits and pieces. Given the pressing timeframe I got Matt to start to pull together the SC and went over on the 15th February to try and get it on its wheels.

A few pictures for all you pervs.

So I set about stripping the brakes down, ready to replace whatever parts need replacing.

I then went away for half term, had a cracking time and spent hours researching information and trying to get a link between the chassis number and the registration.

At the RSVP BBQ last year I spoke to Steve Parsons about doing some blending on the SC as I knew it needed a boatload of new panels, he came over to Dave’s place and really worked his magic, you’ll remember how shiny the front end looked on the 8th Feb, if not go back a couple of pages!

<sorry, going to have to add photos tomorrow, you pervs will just have to wait>

So as I was saying last night I had been introduced to Steve Parsons and discussed paint blending and ageing, we had tried to save as much original metal as possible, however a lot of new metal was needed and I wanted the final finish to look as if it had just been rolled out of the barn.

Pictures speak a thousand words, although wow and how the hell do you do that will suffice too!

Steve produces and excellent range of badges, airbox covers etc, find him here:-

This is his magnetic GB badge on the back of the SC:-

It sucks that you can't get the original registration. Especially when you consider how many altered or reconstructed splitties proudly shown on Facebook etc. seem to have been given age-related plates when, on the face of it, they don't meet DVLA's registration rules and should be on Q-plates.

I know they're different circumstances, but they should apply the same 'letter of the law' rigor and scrutiny to all registration applications.

Hope you can turn up some evidence in future that helps prove it is what it is.

Thanks for the comment, I can't really believe that they won't let me have it, unfortunately if it doesn't tick a box on the computer it isn't allowed. I even volunteered to take the tax disc, bumper and the engine lid down to Swansea for them to scrutinise in my last pleading letter, unfortunately I received a computer says no reply in the post.

I have applied for an age related plate, so hopefully should get that, spoke to the DVLA this morning and they confirmed they have my re-application and that it is now on NOVA, so assuming that the original letter I received from Volkswagen Germany is enough to confirm the date of production I should be away!

Then you (we) need to trawl the Staines Museum Library internet for evidence of European Cars etc. etc.
I cannot believe that even though you have a period tax disc it does not appear on a V5..
I have JUST read something else you may want to enquire about!

I saw from earlier posts that you know about the V765 referenced in this link... http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/legislation-and- ... -and-dvsa/ ...but maybe they can help?

Point 8 on that page suggests that you might have enough evidence. Maybe the need the help of an organisation that carries more weight with the DVLA than SSVC does is what you need? (And that's no disrespect to SSVC, but point 7 on that page suggests that FBHVC were involved in getting the V765 scheme up and running.)
