You thinking of selling that T4? :D

Having a go at the engine later, so listen out for the explosion.
I came here to look at Pauls build thread and found yours as well.

The T4's a keeper now it's finished. But I must say I'm quite taken with these old rust buckets

I've got an 009 with electronic ignition in it which I can lend you if you want but I'm rather busy today with the family so it would have to be collected. I'll pm janes mobile number which you can call and I'll leave the dizzy outside so you could just pick it up if you need to whilst we are out.

Cheers Steve. I really appreciate it.

I've had so many offers of help from here and VZi, it's really touching.

Sorted though.

Hopefully see you Sunday!

Thanks Ady, you went above and beyond.

Oil pressure switch was wrong/threaded badly/whatever and blew after about 5 minutes of the engine running and dumped oil everywhere.

Carried on doing other jobs hoping a local engineer I know migh be able to tap it or make an insert. Now it seems the case is split round the outlet for the switch.

Just pushed it back in the garage.

I don't usually say this, but I give up. One setback too many to make this weekend.

Wow! Brilliant stuff.

It's pretty much ready to go for MoT just without an engine. I've had several offers of loan engines, I just can't bring myself to do it.

:(

I might have a change of heart overnight. MoT is still booked for tomorrow at 13:00.

Turns out the oil pressure switch from GSF was the wrong one. Having got a proper one, the taper and the thread are totally different.

Pretty despondent now. *sigh* Oh I do love VWs.

Hi Kev.
All's not lost yet ! Get another engine installed in the morning and worry about your engine later. Give me a ring if you need a hand with anything. If you need my engine ring me early and i'll bring it round.
Cheers lee.

I drove my bus today for the first time ever!!

I couldn't let it beat me. I dropped the engine this morning and Paul (Ebenezer) very kindly donated a beetle engine and we set about fitting it.

Had to swap my alternator over onto it, house its remote oil filter on my bus and swap fuel pumps, so it wasn't a record breaker.

I think I ran out of petrol en route to the testing station and couldn't get it started again as the battery was a bit dodgy. I stupidly shorted the jump leads and blew a fuse on the bus - and I don't have any spare reds(!) Couldn't jump it from my car for some reason, so it was towed home. The MoT bloke said to bring it back tomorrow morning at 11. So even if by a miracle it passes, no convoy for me this year.

The tracking was miles out and the steering was everywhere. Brakes were non-existent for some reason and the throttle linkage is dodgy and very difficult to get any revs. So a little list of things to do before 11 tomorrow.

I don't care though. I drove my bus and I have video to prove it.

The mileage now reads 69161, having read 69159 since I bought it all those years ago.

Well, I sorted the niggles for the MoT. Did 5 miles of back roads to test everything before the test. Stopped for petrol, but the oil light came on just as I pulled in. Oil dripping on the J tubes of the loan engine from somewhere. Then the dodgy battery reared its ugly head again and it wouldn't start.

So, I rang the testing station and told them I wouldn't be there.

Nipped home and got some oil and stole the battery from my daily. Got her running and Home again. Quick couple of laps round the block for good measure and parked up.

So, no mot and no Stanford, even without the bus. We had a hell of a go though. Thanks to everyone for the valiant effort.

I still got to drive it though and loved every second! Pics and probably videos to follow!

It least you never gave up

I guess a more leisurely MOT is on the cards now then? :D

What's the prognosis on the other engine? is that hole repairable?

:)
