The only thing holding it on was cobwebs! Check out the repair patch on the left, nice choice of tread metal.

ok. So about 8 years ago i purchased the front sub frame and running gear from a 964. Having dusted it off tonight i now remember that by chance (it really was chance as i had no idea of the dimensions) the difference in track between a 66 bus and a porsche 964 is .3 of and inch. Result.

So this is the subframe and wish bones that will go under the bus -

Now the fun bit is the suspension set up will be a push rod system with the coil over damper sitting transversely across the bus under the cab tool box.

Similar in design to this -

It means i do not need to try and jam the spring and damper under the arch.

Started offering up the chassis parts today and hopefully over the weekend will tack weld a few chassis rails in place to hang it off.

Drive shaft in place, almost as if has always been there

Offered up the engine and gearbox today. I will have to cut into the cab floor to accommodate the gearbox nose but not as much as i first thought.

Don't ever throw out your skateboard, you never know when it will come in handy!

Engine mount will be tight to the engine lid.

Might even have room for a fuel tank!

Nose will be 120mm higher than this so need to fab a hole in the floor and the sub frame for the gearbox front mount.

Spent the last 2 evenings getting the engine, gearbox and rear suspension under the shell and lifting it up as far as possible. The limiting factor is the torque tube hitting the i sections under the cargo floor so with 15mm of gap i have a small invasion of the gearbox nose into the cab. Luckily the rear fire wall was so corroded i am using less cutting pics than i thought

Started fabricating the front chassis this weekend, so far so good.

In all of this paperwork is the solution

Using the old front chassis leg as a gauge for heights and profiles although the 964 drive shafts require different clearances.

Hi Mo. Yes pretty much. I am going to try and keep the original dimensions under the cargo floor just to make outriggers and sills etc easy to fit and then forward of the arch i need to fab for the front drive shafts i will keep as standard as possible again for ease of fitting floors etc.
