hahaha now i know why you need a high top.... on the other side there was towells hanging out to dry....
this was a pretty cool bus... i liked it alot.......
who wants usefulness or practicality in a vehicle as opposed to old, technologically outdated, unreliable, under powered, over priced "vans". They are not exactly the definition of "useful" under any circumstance
We drive/like these 'cause they just look cool. Nothing else.
What a great restoration Vanman. I restored a hi-roof just over 20 years ago. I originally restored it to a panel van and converted it from LHD to RHD. After a couple of years I then converted it to a camper with all mod cons, much to the horror of the 'purists'. Sacrilege I know but then they weren't driving around in a big tin box and sleeping in a tent.

Hi there any pics ?? Was it blue ???info ??? Peter ???
I still have some photos of it somewhere. I'll need to dig them out and learn how to post them though. It was featured in Volksworld sometime in 1991 and is also in the 'Original VW Bus' by Laurence Meredith and a couple of European Magazines.
It was a 1965 model finished in Dove Blue, registration number 490 FFR (49 the year of the van prototype, 0FFR for Original Factory Fitted Roof). Not many people had seen one back then and they were always looking for the join!
Peter truly stunnig , i think i have video footage from 84 at stoneleigh of this van- always loved it and mine will be a copy of yours -Dove blue and running stock with painted hubcaps -a true hitop original thanks for sharing fotos
Spent all week prepping and finally got some paint on even if it is only primer it's nice to get a few panels done..
Got the last 2 pieces of metal today so welding should be complete by Sunday evening..
Will get pics up as soon as I get myself a new computer as I don't know how to work this iPad thing!

Never ever ever doing a hightop again..... Fact.
Amount of metal to prep on this thing is ridiculous!! Not doing just the outside paint job but also detailing inside and underneath!! That's a stupid amount of panels to sand.
Engine lid hinge panel inner and outer now done and accident damage on rear o/s corner all sorted and prepped
Finally getting there mr yip! Still trying to work out how to paint the roof tho...
