Had a few computer problems but its back working now [ an expensive it man saved it] been to Swansea I must reccomend a visit to FBi vw could of spent ages looking round got loads of hard to find parts spent over £700 on what would of been in a skip a few years ago
Image

Had a few days off over christmas so spent quite a bit of time in the marquee
Image

Also got my panels from musclebus took a 60 mile drive to deepest Dorset to pick up my cab, cargo floors & front inner & outer arches which cost more than the bus 8O still they are good quality & fit really well
Image

Managed to get the N/S sill welded & door bottoms, spent ages getting the cargo door gaps but not too bad after some fettling :bounce: welded in the B & C pillar repair sections so the N/S is ready for the rear wing
Image

Welded in the battery tray & rear closing panel & decklid hinge panel. Finally got my engine decklid from the USA which cost $258 plus £16 UK duty  thanks to Cory or black dog as he's known on thesamba

As the nearside was welded & strong I spent ages drilling spot welds to remove the O/S rear wing the strengthening bars inside are in good condition & undamaged from removing the wing, so when my shotblast chap turns up  I can weld the wings & floors in

More pictures when my blast man has been, should have the floors welded in too  Phil

Cleaned up lots of panels not yet fitted & sprayed Frost weld thro primer & rust primer to stop them going rusty. Im fitting beetle irs arms to the bus & thanks to Oxford Phils pictures and advise I cut out the gearbox horns for clearnce of the drive shafts. The inside of the horns were full of what looked like a wasp or beetle nest full of red mud & holes 8O
Image

then welded in the bit I cut out

Image

Light grind and all finished

Image

Just waiting for the brackets from Heritage to weld onto the suspension tube to fit the beetle irs arms

Image

Managed to get some screws to fix the hinges & decklid onto the bus also fitted the rear valance some of the gaps need adjusting :bounce: but a bit more done, Phil

Cheers Ronnie  Update on the IRS after a pm from vwjim ive ordered the type2 detectives kit seems a lot of money but you get the brackets that go round the tubes that bolt on so they can be adjusted then welded after tracking, adjuistable spring plates, thicker driveshafts, & their shock absorbers, was a bit miffed when I looked at an old advert and saw the kit was £100 cheaper less than a year ago  but seems quite an important thing to get right
Sandblasting update needs to be at least 4 degrees plus to operate the machinery so no progress untill it warms up no good with 4 inches of snow :brilsmurf:

At last managed to get some warmer weather & somebody to blast the bus £293.00  8O but fed up being let down still it means I can now weld on the rest of the panels 8)

Image

Image

Image

My son decided to play in the sand & got covered head to toe, I spent hours sweeping blowing
hoovering, blast man used 13 bags managed to blow all my strip lights  left in a hurry after 2 1/2
hours when the dust settled saw he had missed a few bits but I can finish them with the grinder

Image

applied the POR15 metal ready to the inside & chassis got a calor gas heater :bom: warmed up the marquee
the bottle said it needs 70 degrees to work 8O

Image

Image

Use some rust encapsulator aerosol called Eastwood from Frost.co.uk works well & covers good.
Ronnie is giving me a hand tomorrow so should get lots done 8) more pictures tomorrow. Phil
