Started to replace fuel lines

A little while back my speedo stopped working.

I bought a new cable but that didn't fix the problem. I took today of work and after getting dome chores done I thought I'd take a look.

After reading up and watching some you tube vids I decided to have a look.

All pretty basic stuff once its out. I gave everything a fiddle, clean and regrease and put it back together.

One of the things that has been bugging me for a long while is the colour of the lights on the speedo done work, apart from the two indicators at the top.

On the speedo is a small coloured disc glued on but mine had burnt through or disintegrated and fell off or both.

Although falling apart I did manage to salvage the pieces and make it right.

But I broke the needle - DOH !

Coloured photo to remind me and the blue disc attached - this is really dark. I might sand it back a bit.

The green indicators were burnt through but I managed

I am told the coloured plastic see through tops to milk bottles work..

Blue full cream
Green semi skimmed
Red cow wash

I was told the plastic wallets do the job, was up in the loft trying to find one last night but no joy.

I'm quite happy with it really, the join in the indicators is barely noticeable.
The blue is so dark though it does bother me a bit, strangely its the only original piece that's still intact.

I'm taking Laura out for a spin do I'll get to see if the speedo is working, if it does it'll be a case of finding out how to get the needle to rest on zero and fix/ replace the needle.

Wow, was it really October the last time I posted on here.

Laura has been tucked away for most of this year due to an oil leak the last time I used her. Until recently I just haven't had the time to investigate.
It turned out to be the rocker cover gasket warping due to heat or pressure I believe.
After reading a few links I discovered that petrol leaking into the fuel can cause over heating and sure enough there was fuel in the petrol.

Oil changed and new fuel pump fitted.

The nosecone on the gear box is leaking so this weekend that is what I'll be fixing along with a few other jobs.

Adjust brakes
Fit new brake light switch
New fuse
New fuel sender
Fit gear stick pin ( thanks Rocket Ron)
New fuel lines
Fuel cut off solenoid
New nosecone seals
New fan belt
Change to old style exhaust
Reshape rear valance
Revers switch ?

Apart from having to remove the engine and gearbox box, none of these jobs are big ones. So I'm hoping to get this done before the end of tomorrow.

Enough typing, time to get stuck in.

Whilst I was waiting for my fuel tank to empty I started with the rear valance then I thought whilst the engine is in place I'd check my old style exhaust will fit with the rear bumper.

I got so far into it and thought I'd seen these style exhaust on campers but the had two small sections underneath the bumper cut out so I thought I'd stop and ask you guys your opinions before I go any further.

Will I need to modify the exhaust for this twin pipe one to fit ?

If so I won't bother.

Managed this on my own, after all "its only 4 bolts".

The trolley I made to sit engines on has come in handy.

Ok guys been a while since I put an update on this thread.

So this update will be short but in some respects it quite a big one.

I'm looking to sell Laura.

She's all but done. Things like the last piece of ply, stain it then attach the tassels - remember the tassels ?

I'm going traveling at the end of the year and that what has bought about the sale. I'm going to come back through the U.S. So I'll prob pick up another split or airstream or something.

If anyone is interested just send a pm.

Price , I'm undecided. I thought she would be worth 27-30 ? What do you think ?
I did pay for a club valuation but my insurance ran out and I never got around to renewing it and driving to the valuer.

I am open to offers , there's not a for sale thread as yet but I thought I'd let the people who have been following this thread as I thought I'd have a better conversation/offer and also find Laura a new guardian who will appreciate the amount of work that's gone in.

If are interested and would like to keep the pantina you'll have to be quick. When I put her up for sale properly she will be shiney and that 50 year pantina will be gone forever .

So I thought I'd better get this thread up to date.

Last year I took the gearbox out and gave it a clean and wanted to replace the gearbox nose cone seal. Alas the new part was quite loose and it turn out you need to buy a new nose cone for it as Well.

Whilst the engine and gearbox was out it was a good time to replace the fuel sender and clean up the gearbox a bit.

I had also taken the opportunity to replace the shuttlecock but they seemed a bit flimsy so I wrapped some gaffe tap around and around until I got it the same size as the tube. Nice and firm and central

When the gearbox went back in I also fitted new fuel lines and the fuel cut off solenoid.

So now the lust is starting to look more like this

I haven't put a post up since about August but the list that I'm crossing off is work I done in August but never got around to putting it up.
If memory serves me right it's all done but I am in the process of checking before I post up that it's done.

I will be taking it for an MOT very soon and the putting her up for sale !
