Ah yes..plugged the location into Google maps and found the position pinned.
Then hunted to find what details one could find about previous owners of a property.
Two ideas came out.
Property will have a Land Registry title and MAY be able to drill back through changes of ownership.
Pre n post 1960.
Electoral role with inhabitants of a property may be renewed anually so current owners (if they choose to vote) would be on the role. In my day used to be kept available to view in local library...traced an old "friend" that way ..but that is another story..
Census records may be another help but if they are able to be read is another issue..
Also planning permission for any changes on line with local council may have names of owners at recent times.

Also wondered if other sources of Buckinghsmshire records were on line.
SC could have been bought in Aylesbury or Maidenhead main dealer..close to main road between the two..

G

I’ve written to the current owners of the house and asked if they have forwarding details of previous owners.

Will check census and voting lists.

Have also spoken to the dealership in HIgh Wycombe, no records older than 10 years.

Keep thinking!

From your studies have you worked out who bought the bus origionally?
Was it one of the coalmerchant family of J B Searl & Sons?
or did they acquire the bus when they bought the property/ barn?
The planning document has their site based in another local village and they appear as part of another organisation..
I was working on the idea it may have been bought to do deliveries and hunted in Companies House records on line to try to find if it was a limited company and seek any company accounts to see it it was recorded as an asset..
I only looked quickly nothing found..

Maybe the Porsche or Jaguar owner might advise if they have any info on the respective POs and if indeed they were VWs
You should hire out the book..
LOL..

lots of avenues to chase up yet..!

G

The coal merchant bought the farm with the bus already in the barn, I understand the original owner was an Arthur James of Dean Farm, Haw Lane, Bledlow Ridge, High Wycombe, HP14 4JG. Trying to find relations of him at the minute.

I’ve had a call from the current owner of the house/barn and he has a forwarding address for Garry Searl so has sent a copy of my letter to him.

He says the Searl family owned the land/barn and rented it to the farmer, he says the land was in a family trust and maybe the solicitor has some details, so a few leads to follow.

He says he met the farmer’s daughter last year but doesn’t have any details.

Another couple of strands to pursue!

Will get my thinking hat on..
Yes the Land registry would have the details of the Land Ownership, and the solicitor for the conveyance and transfer of title at the sale of the Property/ land/ barn would have those details. At least the Land Registry title number would be a start!

Probate record are in the public domain, so if the Trust was a will trust (set up by a deceased in his/her will) you should be able to see the details of who are the beneficiaries of the will/ trust. (How to manage your assets and avoid paying IHT...)

You could get free access at Ancestory.com.. (at least it was for a trial period)

Have you hpi'd both the vin & reg number with experian. You will see if the number has been re-issued. Just incase no chance of getting it back :-(

Will also highlight if any historic record against the vin number.
