Spent the rest of Sunday messing around with bits and pieces, no pictures but fairly boring stuff, just trying to tick off things ready for an MOT next Saturday.

Monday 4th March - Back from work and straight in the garage, Lisa & Emma will forget what I look like!

Stu around again to give me a hand, challenge is to fit the bumpers, having burnt 5 or 6 drill bits the previous week I had raided Screwfix that afternoon, or rather had my bank account fleeced for some crap drill bits.

All of the bolts had sheared while dismantling the SC so each one needed drilling out, I managed to save 7 out of 10, so not too bad and used nuts on the other. When I get them re-sprayed I will weld some captive nuts on

The rear bumper end on the passenger side was a little bent, a slight adjustment with a scaffold pole and it looks alright.

Starting to look good, mirrors (although I can't tighten them so if you've got anything suitable let me know), windscreen wipers fitted and the all important badge.

Enough for tonight, lots of little jobs getting ticked off.

Tuesday 5th March - 10 days to go!

I thought I would call the DVLA to see what I could get out of them, some of the people I had spoken to in the last 9 months had been helpful, some not, so fingers crossed.

I managed to get to speak to a lovely lady, she checked my application and she couldn't see anything logged against it, I knew it had been delivered so I asked if she would check with the first registration team. She put me on hold and came back and said they were dealing with post from the Wednesday of the week before, I asked if there was anyway I could get mine to the top of the pile as I had an international trip planned :(

She put me on hold and after about 5 minutes came back and said they would see what could be done for me :bounce:

About an hour later I got an email asking for pictures as it was currently, easy enough, plus the chassis number, so back to them in no time. A lovely response thanking me for the pictures and saying they were great! and, wait for it, that the vehicle should be registered today :bounce: BUT the paperwork would follow in 10 working days

So close, so close, so a nicely worded response requesting the number and voila here it is:-
Reg 772 XVE.jpg
Not as good as keeping the original, but I've not given up on that just yet, if only I could find an MOT, invoice for a service or a service book for it that shows the registration and the chassis number, will keep trying though, see my thread about European Cars (https://www.ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic ... 2&t=123036) that might just turn up something yet!

So I'm running, driving & registered and still got 10 days to sort all the bits out, happy days. Well that is until I try and get a registration plate made, no go without the V5...... Then a friendly eBayer says he'll do it from the email, sorted :compress:

Tuesday and Wednesday night are spent doing more boring, unphotographed bits and pieces and I'm working through my list.

I had put a beautiful newly chromed handle on the drivers door, as it had a key but it didn't look right.
IMG_5651.JPG
But it had a key, so with a little instruction from G I pulled out my glasses and set about swapping the barrel over, much better I think.

So that's it you're all up to date, lots of bits to finish, but hopefully nothing to stop me going to Ninove, MOT on Saturday then a couple of long test drives over the weekend for a shake down.

I'll try and take some photos of the finishing bits as I do them, apologies this thread has been a bit wordy!

Another night in the garage but no pictures

Brake lines secured, wiring loom secured, cab door rubbers fitted, engine lid rubber fitted, tracking checked and drag link tightened, cab doors aligned, door tops secured, pictures would have been boring anyway :D

Thanks Ted for your help again.

The overlap on the cab door rubbers, to stop draughts where the door top meets the door.

Done as per this thread

https://www.ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=105514

I would have just stuck them in, but Ted showed me the way!

2000 grade polythene sheet.
LoL my 64 was given the treatment with sections of an IKEA mattress packaging bag so it was transparent and I could see what was going on at the bottom of the panels if needed.
I lined all the body skins with Armaflex self adhesive 19mm closed cell foam. I had previous experience of using this on a massive Industrial air extraction and cleaning system for a "clean" room and another for a contained "dirty" room. The added mass reduced noise stopped drumming and gave a great degree of thermal insulation too!
