1965 Velvet Green Italian

Post by Rob E » Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:18 am

Here's our new bus

1965 11 window, with only 39,000 miles on the clock!
All original paint.

Was found in Italy by a member of the SSVC in 1999 after being lost in storage for over 30 years after the original owner died 4 years after buying it.

If anyone has any info about it, we would be most grateful. I seem to remember it was previously featured in one of the magazines, anyone remember?

Our plan is to keep it original, but change the interior fabric for something more period.

Lovely van and interior.

The interior is very nice Westfalia or Westy style.
The fabric is very much in keeping with Westy and to my eye looks the part both in period and colour way.
Look for clara on thesamba.com
Look for Westy material threads..
pun

IMHO keep it as it is..

It looks great.
If you do decide to change..

NOOOO do not do it..
it is saleable..

Here is the thread..
You will see very similar..

Thanks for that. I'm not sure the exact type of interior, it's got a westy cupboard, but thought the rest was homemade?

No a guy from the SSVC bought it at auction in Italy off the grandson of the original owner. David somebody, from Wolverhampton

We have no plans to modify this van.

Anyone know if the interior is original or not? It's definitely a westy cupboard. But what about the L-shaped seating?

Interior is definitely homemade and the cushions are new so it's definitely coming out. Will be for sale.

Spent the afternoon going over the motor, rebuilt the carb as it didn't idle, replaced a load of modern spade connectors with the correct non insulated type, set the carb up and charged the battery. Also removed a load of pointless window stickers....

Test drive tomorrow.

Runs like a brand new bus!

Tonight I spent the evening cleaning and detailing the interior pass side cab area, fitted some wheel arch mats- looks much better.

Next up, drivers side. Pics tomorrow.

Lovely bus btw. Originality is the trump all else cool card imo.

It may only be held on by 4 bolts; but one of them is a pain in the @ss to get to!

Sorry just not a fan of stickers.

Finished cleaning the cab, straightened the grey card headliner panels and got everything working bar the fuel gauge. Have traced the fault to the sender so that's a winter job.

Started tidying the engine, and replacing the missing detail items. Just waiting on a few more pieces. Am after the metal tube pipe that the air filter preheat tube attaches to. Anyone got one?

New number plates too.
