Bert the barndoor

Post by BlastingDiePast » Thu Apr 14, 2016 6:34 pm

Not much to say really he's an early single cab in dove blue.

Not much is going to happen anytime soon as we have a few panels/parts to collect.

First up a new roller will be built to hold old Bert up while we strip and prepare to blast the chassis, next up will be an inspection of the clean chassis and source the parts needed.

This Resto could go one of two ways, try and keep the original paint or full blown better then standard.

Now that's an understatement. I'd class anything with bullets as early. He's in a different class. Very nice.

Very true he is very nice!

Not often you get to work let alone go all out on a 54 RHD barndoor pickup.

Very nice! Def save as much original paint as possible, a shiny truck is a scratch waiting to happen.
Also isn't it left hand drive dude, or are your photos flipped?

Hi Nolan

It's RHD the photos are not flipped, it started out life as LHD sent to Canada then shipped to New Zealand by VW who then converted it in their factory to RHD, which is where it stayed until being found and shipped to the uk.

Nolan is talking about the treasure chest door, it should be on the other side but waaaaaaaay back in 54 vw NZ did not bother to change this (too much hassle) strangely tho the other pick up I have in from SA has the same setup....

A photo soon!

Cool, nice to know some history. Yeh was the treasure chest door and the bolt holes for the mirror on the a-pillar that made me wonder. Looks one nice truck :)
