1963 Yellow American School Bus

Post by dankp » Thu Mar 12, 2015 6:36 pm

I just wanted to say hello and introduce my bus, my name is Daniel, I am currently building a rather unique bus which some of you may have seen already, this is certainly not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it's mine for sure. 8)

It's a 1963 11 window, which was used as school transportation in Utha USA, at the Notre Dame high school between 1970-76. It has the original logos from when it was used at the school plus the original bench seats.

It was discovered hiding in a field and was recused and has slowly begun an amazing journey ending up with me in sunny Kent. (After I managed to convince the wife this was the dream bus and could be something very special 8O , honest love  )

My plans are to get it road legal/registered and turn it into an amazing maintained rusty bundle of joy and cannot wait to get it on the show scene sometime this year :D

THIS IS ITS STORY SO FAR

It was tidy up by the previously owner having a lot of work done to the suspension, engine etc and was advertised on the samba, and that's where I came in.

It came across with some amazing old documents including bus tickets that were used by the pupils back in the early 70's arriving in kent around December time after nearly a 6 month wait, the longest 6 months I've had to endure!

Once the school bus arrived over here, James at Veedubs handle the issue of getting it to an MOT'able stage
Basically replacing all the underside including structural, plus cills, lots of new metal but also aiming to keep as much of the original metal as possible.

It then had all the electrics overhauled and the engine sorted
Meaning he went in for MOT and passed first time !
This is where I can't say thank you enough to James, he worked flat of for a while week achieving a pass by the friday, just unbelievable and a true friend.

Future plans are front wheel arch tubbing, Safari windows , new chrome torque thrusts and a nice helping of ankorwax/ cill painting.

This is no way a big budget build, in realality is a no budget, calling on favours of real honest people and learning as I go build, Ive fallen in love with this old split and will stay true to what I belive in, I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I do.

So that's kind of where I'm at , a big thanks to a couple of individuals in the usa (you know who you are) for saving the bus and without the support of my fellow Paintscrapers, who constantly put up with me and my pictures plus my wife for buying 2 tonne of pig iron, this amazing bus probably wouldn't be ready to grace the uk show scene.

I will continue to update this thread as and when I do things and I look forward to meeting you all, come and say hi you won't miss me !
