Did cab doors ever shut flush?

Nearly every van i see, the cab door nearly always sticks out proud from the body. Ive been working on my cab doors and even with the striker plate fully inward the door is still sticks out 2-3 mm proud? Is there any magical way to sort this issue?

Yes, they should sit flush. No magic, just good bodywork with the hinges and striker plate adjusted.

Maybe there has been some welding done in the past and it things where not exact on the right place.
Think thats also what happens on my panel,doors comes over my doglegs.

I found that my striker plates were worn 2mm down as they were the original ones. Ive since changed these and the door has pulled in 2mm. Its still proud, but as the striker was worn so must be the latch on the door mechanism. And it is, can just the latch on the door mechanism be changed without replacing the whole thing, or is there a way round this?
