‘Knocking noise’

Post by Rock Bus » Tue Nov 07, 2017 8:48 pm

Sorry a bit vague but here we go....

For a while now I would hear a knocking noise on hard right turns.

Now got worse and appears all the time on accelerating.

Struggling to hear where it is coming from but think it’s front.

Also steering seems a little ‘looser’ than normal.

Apologies for rubbish non technical description but any ideas?

The loose steering could be the centre pin on the front beam, or joints on stub axles. wouldn't have thought it would knock from these. The knock could be something as simple as a shock.

When you've been under it, or jacked it up and looked, what have you checked already?

Is the bus stock? Or modified? If so, in what way?

To be honest, I’m mechanically inept so just trying to find out how soon I need to take to garage -although tightening wheel bolts is probably just within my capabilities!

Weird thing is it wasn’t so bad today, and noise is only when turn right, not left!.?!

Could be right side wheel bearing.
Jack the wheel off the ground.
Grab the wheel at top and bottom and pull each in turn.
If it 'clunks' when doing it you could try adjusting up the wheel bearing.
Try both front wheels.
I don't like injustice!
