Axel Tubes

Post by Martie966 » Fri Aug 12, 2016 2:50 pm

Hi Guys

I'm currently trying to put the axel rods and reduction boxes back on my gearbox, from a 1966 splitty! After I have put in the plastic split scone, gasket and do up the nuts to 14lb ft I have no movement on the axel at all. I can't remeber how it was when I took it out but am I right in thinking there needs to be some movement? If anyone can assist would be greatfull trying to get the bus back on the road this weekend after 10 yrs being of the road.

Thank you

Yes it does need a little free play, you 'shim' the axles by adding or taking away the paper hexagonal gaskets. If SA the axle should just drop under its own weight, not sure how that translates to an axle with the weight of a RGB on the end....
