I intend to retain and service my existing relay which I believe may be sticking.
Please see my earlier posts.
For the minute however I have purchased a replacement from VW heritage only to find it's a 5 pin, not 6 as per the original.
I am anxious to resolve for my mot retest but lack the skills to adapt 5 pin
Could Any body please offer any advice? It would be very much appreciated
Heritage offere the following by way of their website
Fitting Info
Terminals:
56 - To Light switch (switched live)
30 - To fuse box (Direct live)
S - To dip switch (switched negative)
56a - To High Beam
56b - To Low Beam
Kind regards paul

The correct relay part number for a 12 volt Bus from August '65 onwards is 311 941 583 B.
You do not appear to have this. If you look at this wiring diagram on the samba you can see the correct relay (J1) only has 5 terminals.http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/inf ... bus_67.jpg
Also, below is a picture of a NOS one that passed through my hands and matches the wiring diagram.

Hi vwed
But looking at the wiring diagram there is no terminal 30!
I'm easily confused by wiring so pardon my ignorance again.
I'm now thinking the problem may actually be with the steering column stalk switch as I have noted that if I pull and let go quite aggressively the issue is resolved.
I've tried to remove to inspect and clean but Sod's law as, usual there is one stubborn screw !
Regards paul

You're right, however by definition it must be the red wire going to the fuse box, which matches the info Heritage gave you.

Ok thanks I've traced all of the cables from relay outwards
Terminals S & J appear to be cross connected
