CE Steering rack and box raise issue

Post by 58splitty » Wed Jan 06, 2016 7:48 am

Im currently thinking of getting the CE steering rack that bolts on as my steering is just rubbish

Im guessing i have an issue as my bus has had a steering box raise. Does this kit use the existing steering box mounting points to bolt the rack on?

As the mounting points have moved up with the steering box when it was raised, im guessing this wouldnt be a straight bolt on item?

Or am i thinking wrong?

You are right, it won't be a straight bolt on if you've had a box raise chassis section, KuhlTek do a reversal chassis section which you could get welded in or get your steering box refurbed? The club spares shop do all the bits I think?

I was going to swop for the CE and bought an appropriate size box section that I was going to get welded across my raised chassis, was thinking of drilling and welding in some nuts before putting it on the bus, but stuck with the steering box instead.

Yes it does use the OG mounting points, so your best bet is to remove the raised section, and weld in a stock height cross beam. They're readily available.

I didn't think the CE rack was a simple bolt on rack anyway!

If you've got a raised box already why not spend some of the money you are thinking of spending on the Creative Rack on getting your current stock box system overhauled / fixed?

When done right the standard steering box system is quite good and reliable for years to come.
