Weber IDF40 tune+rolling road set up West Midlands?

Post by type21f »

Hi I am running in a 1776cc with twin 40s.
I would like recommendations for carb and rolling road set up. I have build spec and car set up spec for engine.

Engine was turn key broken in on test bed and dyno figures run on 90 octane fuel at 72 degrees so not in UK.

The vehicle has sat with very little use during fit out for around a year not run on the road. Did start and idle regularly up to temperature but not run in anger. They dragged a liitle dust in on initial running and would not idle so idle set up higher. Presently they will not idle when cold and idle ( too high?) at around 1000 - 1100 when warm.
Want the carbs cleaning checking vents checking for 95 octane and or setting on rolling road.
Running mechanical fuel pump and had to adjust the fuel pressure down.
Have fitted twin throttle springs to reduce an initial problem with throttles not closing and being slow to respond when taking foot off accelerator.

Thoughts on mileage to run before setting up and recommendations for VW experienced weber set up people and rolling road. .

Only done around 500 miles so far!

Cheers

Graham

Take a look at this thread and the link in my post to another thread:-

I took mine to Malc at TTP in Bromsgrove, although it only needed a tune as it was jetted correctly, will be going back soon with my twin ICTs as they haven't been setup properly yet.

Not sure about the West Midlands.

However, should you be able to reach the East Midlands then Peter Burgess in Alfreton is highly recommended. :D

There are quite a few members on here that have been there and had great results, from stock to large modified lumps.

I used to live in Bromsgrove so I will read and check out.

I do frequent East Midlands for work so will visit to check out.

Cheers...
Any one else have suggestions..

Pulls 60 at 3200 rpm..so pulls OK. ..
A bit stumbley at lower revs..
Probably needs a good clean and tick over setting.
Will order weber book to read and try to understamd more..
Realise no choke so cold start has to be coaxed... was OK till it ran really rough one day....

I think Peter Burgess wrote a book on Weber's from memory.

He is a traditional rolling road guy that specialisers in carbs, cylinder heads and MG engines (so no VW scene tax).

There is usually a wait, but he's defo worth it, sometimes he may get you in sooner if he has a cancellation.

If you see Pete, or Keith (my long haired lover!), tell 'em Choc sent you.

Whoever carries out a RR tune up you will notice a great difference and it should feel totally different to what it does now. Don't bother with the book, put the money towards a Rolling Road session. :D

Thanks eddy..
I think I have decided to go with Peter because I work most of the time in Derby so it would fit to go to work and on for tuning or go for tuning and on to work. ..
Wanted to get a little more miles on the clock first..have only done around 500 so far..
Aim to get 1000...oil change check things and then off for a check..
Also want to do some cleaning myself. .
Engine was built for low octane higher temperature running with reamed jets..
Need someone with experience to play..
Matt is efi turbo fuel injected nitro head..says he knows little about carbs.. B'S. ..but he wants dyno check with RnR proof...
Maybe will be in the next couple of weeks.
Engine was turn key but may have ingested a bit of paint blocking dust and tank debris.
Fuel filter is clean though so suspect build debris and or Dusty Dave Debris...

LOL
