Come to the conclusion I need a new carb, but I don't know which I should go for.
So it's for a 1600 Single Port and looking at a couple of sites it's either......
This one
https://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Ca ... tartPage=1
or this one
https://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_NC ... tartPage=1
Which I think is the same as this one from Schofields
Any advice would be much appreciated

New Carb Choice
Re: New Carb Choice
Hi -- Many will suggest you have your existing carb refurbed (assuming it is og Solex) and ask why you think it needs a new one - Gower and Lee have a good reputation http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/ - others on here offer a good service too -also assume you can do without a carb for a few weeks due to turnaround.

Hey, yep Solex 30 pict -2
Thanks for the link I will give them a shout, It's leaking fuel from a couple of places and there's a couple of other things I have concerns about. But I#ll give them a call in the morning

Re: New Carb Choice
Andy,
I just had this predicament, my lump is a 1600TP, so the option for twin carbs was there, just didn't want to spend another £461 than I needed to just yet, but after the mechanics spent a while trying to get that old lumpy carb working right, after several hours cleaning bell stripped and cleaned, to which it needed a full strip and rebuild, costing up time and labour, against going a route I would anyway....
So I bought some twin carbs from eurocarb, with the best CSP twinning kit, delivered next day, fitted, working, looking great, and no doubt performance improved.
Think it was the right option for me.

Re: New Carb Choice
Hey, good new on yours then
Well I contacted the refurb company but it's a 6-7 week turnaround and the cost was the same as a new one from VW heritage. So I bought a new one. To be honest, it just didn't feel as good a quality etc but having said that. I dropped it on, started it up and it ran just fine
.
It does need a bit of fine tuning but probably at a level that i can't do so I reckon i'll get the bus on the road, then take it along to a rolling road place and let them set it up properly.
And then....in time get the original solex refurbed.

Re: New Carb Choice
Keep the original and get it refurbed. It's the best match to the engine.
I've got an original 30 Pict-2 which isn't working and a H30/31 on my engine now but not totally happy with it. Need to save some money to get the original refurbed.
I think cogbox does refurbs as well.
