Replacing old style fan shroud with doghouse shroud?

Post by Bellyjabie »

Any advice, I definitely have a 1965 van, I think I have a 1970 1584cc engine, not sure whether it is twin port or not, has tp manifolds, it doesn't have a doghouse shroud?

According to The Samba the engine code, see below is B6 which is a 1970 1600cc Dual relief, single port, 47bhp DIN, 57HP SAE M157 USA/Canada.

I have been getting a little hot so was thinking about fitting a doghouse shroud and all the bits. Is that a good idea, possible, easy?

I know I need to replace the seal at the front of the engine which will help.

I also have a doghouse front tin with the hole is so that may be contributing a little extra heat from below!!

Some pics to help.

It's fairly easy but you do need the engine out. As well as the new cooler and offset adaptor you'll need the doghouse fan shroud with it's bigger fan. You have the closing tin so you will also need the 2 doghouse tins. If you have flaps and thermostat fitted you will also need the doghouse type flap bar and trees to connect to the flaps themselves.

Hope that's what your after,

Regards, Grant

Thanks Grant, got a friend who's going to help me get the engine out, so just a case of picking up the bits I need.
