1965 wiper linkage

Post by smudger73 » Wed Dec 12, 2018 2:52 pm

Hi folks, I have a completely refurbed 1966 12v wiper linkage with motor and just tried fitting it to my RHD 1965 panel van and does not fit properly, the motor housing is hitting the metal air ducting for the dash, do I need a year specific wiper frame to fit a 65?
Thanks in advance

I believe so...
I have 3 65s fitted ...to 65 MY buses..
My September 64 had been ******* by fitting a Bay unit.
The spindle holes had been recut in the lower windscreen surround and the unit cobbled to fit. ASH tray base had a hole cut in it because it clashed. I looked at my January 65 buses LHD n RHD and worked out with the help of vwed what exactly I needed.
Pictures here of my refurbed unit..

65's are a one year only....You can have a chat with Butty (Si) and he can put you straight on what's what. He's got some pics on his website I believe.
Packed a few belongings and headed out to Pirates Cove. In my buddy’s old grey Kombi we rolled until the gas got low.....

1965 is one year only motor and frame, PITA. Impossible to convert to 12V unless you eaither find a 12V option motor or a NOS Beetle armature 113955813E as the replacements are not the correct length.

Buttys did not do a 65 conversion, but you could try scholfields if you need a complete wiper mech

If you have frame and motor that fits it is a start..

Got a 65 wiper linkage from fbi vw with 6 volt motor, bought the 12v armature to swap over and it's too long, this van is fighting me all the way

The standard 12v armatures are not interchangeable into the 6v frame but can be modified..
BJ1 talked about how to do on here..

Aye, sits high in the frame, shimmed up the brush gear and machined off a few mm off the armature, got it running on 12v but the cover still hits the brush gear

Contact Don West and ask for the part I mentioned above, will fit a treat and make your wiper motor 12V
