Tailgate Lock Not Opening

Post by 66Pepper » Thu Apr 20, 2017 7:40 pm

Hi guys

The push button lock on the tailgate has stopped working - the key will turn and the button can be pressed in but to no avail.

I have tried from the inside to open the tailgate, by pulling on the little rectangular piece in the lock but nothing happens.

Any ideas on what is wrong with it and how I can open the tailgate?

Cheers.

Is it not just stuck shut on something? Can you try pushing it open from inside?

Not budging! I thought someone may know how the lock actually works as I think something is broke, as the inside lever seems to do nothing too....

The button must push a lever inside the tailgate?

Can you unscrew the push button lock from the inside? Then try and flick the lever?

If memory serves, there is a peg which is screwed on to the back end of the lock barrel. Turning the key rotates the peg so that engages with the release mechanism (unlocked) or clears it when pushed ( locked) . This has probably come unscrewed . You will need to remove the inner panel of the tailgate from inside and then fiddle with the lock mechanism to release it, ( its fairly obvious which bit to press!) . Then fish around in the bottom of the tailgate for the peg and the screw and refit them to the end of the lock barrell. Dont let the tailgate fly up to quickly or you will lose the bits as they are quite small!
