1953 Barndoor Standard SOLD

Post by musclebus »

1953 Barndoor Standard £ SOLD

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1523331

(sorry for thesamba link but cannot remember my photobucket account details!)

chassis number : 20-067196 comes with Birth Certificate from VW, and import docs

98% of welding done, currently zero filler (bondo) on the bus, almost ready for final prep and paint, correct barndoor cab doors and handles, correct barndoor cargo doors (rear hung cargo door is currently a later door as the original needs work but included in the deal), this bus has the nice option of 3 x pop out windows along the long side, originally fitted with a Behr scoop, this has been replaced with the barndoor peak

currently in (zinc) primer with the underside in zinc primer with a dark grey overcoat, lots of cleaned and repainted underside parts, barndoor spindles and brakes all round, booted on 15" rollers

Klassicfab year correct cargo and cab floors, doglegs, decklid, bulkhead, rear valance, lower 6" panels
Autocraft long and short sides

No rear bumper model (these started with chassis number 69409 ...ref barndoor.dk) although the Birth cert state this bus would have originally been fitted with the optional extra M097 rear bumper

Supplied with the bus are: All pedals, handbrake, gear stick, gear selector rods, cab foot rest, passenger grab handle, dash pod, speedo pod, speedo, starter button, semaphore switch (repro), cab seat bases, 2 x repro dome lights, spare wheel parcel shelf, fuel tank, repro tail lights, deck lid T-handle, decklid latch, window rubbers and most glass, brake lines, side mirror arm & mirror, front badge, front bumper, 2 x new front shock absorbers, single circuit master brake cylinder, 2 x rebuilt 22mm original front brake cylinders, inner cab door handles, the outer cab door handles are original barndoor as are the cargo door mechanism and outer handle (the inner handle is from a later bus), 2 x rear lever shocks (Armstrong)

new copper brakelines now installed

the parts it still needs : horn push, ignition barrel and key (and the keys cut for the og barndoor drivers door cab handle and cargo door lock), wiper arms, heater control knob, rear brake light rear reflector piece, reflectors, loom

* the current dash pod is incorrect (but perfectly usable) as it should ideally be fitted with the double fuses block type *

The gearbox is a beetle one with a new repro ERCO nosecone. It has barndoor axles/reduction boxes fitted to maintain the stock height and is mounted with a Monkeyspinner adaptor plate

Basically a lot of the hard to find parts are supplied with the bus (not all pictured here)

Many hours have gone into this bus and nearly all the hard work has been completed to the point where the new owner can decide if they want to go 6v or 12v, standard height or lowered etc

there is currently no engine with the bus but I can include a 70's 1200cc beetle engine if the asking price is met

I have some more photos I can send out, I am based in the UK on the Dorset / Somerset border near to the A30 / 7 miles from Shaftesbury, 10 miles from Yeovil.

Please e-mail / pm or tel me if interested / wish to arrange a viewing or would like to be sent more photos

^^^ Thank you, a lot of effort has been made to repair this bus using the correct Barndoor panels :D

Thank you for the offers of trades that I have received, nothing that has quite appealed to me as of yet as I would prefer an outright sale

many thanks for the kind words Dave, I have put some effort into the bus to get it to this condition ready for the new owner to make it their own, whether it be 6v stock / 12v lowered large motor etc etc ....I also have quite a few years experience of rescuing and returning to the road other barndoor buses with a few of the owners on here, I priced the bus at exactly what I thought it was worth with the work needed to take it on, paint, engine etc, not a stupidly high price that was taking the p*ss or a stupidly low one that would not repay me for my time and investment of buying the bus, repairing it with the correct repair panels ......if it doesn't sell soon I will just finish the bus and readvertise it for much more than it is now

a 53' standard barndoor bus for the fifth of the price of a Deluxe model or the same as a restored Bay window bus !!

All the Best ... Chris
