The grill halves are held in place by a single screw holding a plate down across both burners

Now every thing becomes clear,I have that bit that holds the burners in place with one screw,just couldn't work out where it went,I am looking forward to Saturday morning now,will see if it all fits,will let you know!!

Glad you got this sorted Tony. I don't think I would have felt comfortable in dismantling someone else's cooker to the extent it would have needed to get thee pictures.
