Gas pipe diameter on Dudley Cooker?

Post by Byron Bamboo » Wed Oct 04, 2017 5:16 pm

I have a Dudley cooker and the gas inlet has been snapped off.

Anyone know what diameter the pipe inlet was, looks like 5mm but difficult to tell

I AM NOT A GAS FITTER I AM A DEVON NERD and A QUALIFIED ENGINEER (METALLURGIST)
...lol

So nomenclature rules..
When people refer to pipe it is ID. When people refer to tube it is OD.

Before you read any further look at these pictures taken from items in my Dudley Cooker Hospital.
They determine the answer to your question...

Both have a fitting outlet.
This shows an outlet with a length of copper tube/pipe soldered onto a female fitting.
OD 9.25mm

This shows a female compression fitting with a piece of pipe coming out which MUST have an olive sealing it inside.
OD 8.85mm

I managed to get the small piece of pipe left out. It was 6mm OD.

It will have an olive sealing ring on it when it goes back on

Does the fitting look to have a compression seat to take an olive?
You can buy the females and olives.
EBay Toolstation Screwfix Wickes..

If the fitting does not look to have a seat the male MAY be tapered and like the first picture..to take s soldered fitting.
If fitting compression futtings always remember not to sit the cut end all the way in.. back it off a little.. the olive grips the pipe as you tighten so you need some closing gap. Measurements added above.
