Wardrobe fixing screws in door aperture - Devon Caps?

Post by ted698 » Mon Sep 04, 2017 2:02 pm

Whilst perusing Greg's absolutely beautiful untouched Devon pics in the For Sale Forum viewtopic.php?f=51&t=119983 (it's worth checking out for the pics alone...)

I noticed something I've not seen before.....

It seems that where the wardrobe is fixed to the door opening aperture with screws - in the pics it looks like they may have the Devon black capped screws here.... or am I imaging this - are they just back japanned screw heads? - they seem too big and black for that....

Any DIC's either confirm or deny this?

DICS...
Did someone call?

Oh no..not more black caps you are missing!
Oh No...sorry another question..!

Devon used two main sorts of screw heads
If it was finally into metal a self tapping slotted cushion head screw full threaded up to under the head

Image

and if it was finally into wood .. a traditional black jappened dome headed slotted screw.

If the screw head face sat on metal.. no cap. If it sat on wood a black cap.
So ..on the cab side of the division.. black japanned through to the wood of the seat, slider cupboard etc.
Yes mine has screws with domed caps holding the cooker cupboard to the C post.

The screws holding the front cupboard fillet to the back of the B post are domed japped screws sat in the channel in both my buses. CHECKED. EDITED.

So your arrows point to black japanned screws..

pictures.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer Graham! - yes I have the black capped screws into my cooker unit/C Post
I didn't think the cargo door aperture had seals down the body side - mine doesn't? Cargo Doors themselves seals all round - body side is top & bottom only...

Makes sense they are the black dome screws - would have been surprised if they were capped - but that pic made me look twice!
What sizes are the correct screws?

CHECKED... NO SEAL..GETTING OLD

One learning point..
Was length!
I took my old corroded items out when I removed my 64 interior... and catalogued with notes n pics what came from where on scraps of paper in the plastic bags I used for storage..
BUT one thing I did not notice was the japanned screws for the slider were not all the same length..one was short..
I soon worked out why!
One screw was in the back of the spare wheel well and with the reduced depth..a full depth screw would break through the slider channel..
