Shaving Mirror

Post by 8 8US » Fri Jan 23, 2015 3:49 pm

Can you please post some pictures of the location of the shaving mirror on the cargo doors of Devons, ideally 66 although the mirror I have bought is a 67 I think.

And if anyone has the catches let me know I am after a couple although I know Stan at Camper Interiors (Caravan Supplies) sells them.

Thanks in advance and an excellent excuse for you guys to post some pictures of your interiors!

Look at my Peebles thread...
I will cut n paste a pic in a mo
There

Essentially I you have the wash bowl stand installed then the bracket for the shaving mirror is scrwed with the screws into the interior panel and door metal in the centre of the stand! Screw centres on a line level with VW fixings so the mounting sits above to take the mirror fitting.

Hi Richard,

Yep - mine is in the same place as Grahams above..... don't have a pic of just the bracket - but have a gratuitous beauty shot of the mirror 'on location'.... hahahahaha

Image

N.B also have a mount fitted in the rear cab area too - but had to move it to fit my rear seatbelt top mount, which is why it tends to live on the door now....

Modern catches are available that mate with the one you have on the mirror.
They were originally made by and labelled flushmount.
This is now out of patent so if you search for the generic name online you will find them.
There are different sizes..
I think those are a common size. There should be one on the NS upper luggage panel just in front of the rear cupboard and this is where your mirror sits most of the time. My local hardware shop did have some almost identical ones Snail brand I think... I did buy the OG stock and sent them out at cost to forum posters. All long gone now I want three....LOL...but a kind poster has promised me at least one...

Yes - I have a second bracket there too - or did, but I had to move it when I fitted my seatbelts.
I moved it the other side by the cooker window, (oddly there were already 4 holes in the trim there that matched up??) but it doesn't really fit very well there, and you can't open the cooker lid with the mirror in place when it's there, hence why it tends to live on my door full time now....

Yes...You do have to take it down when you put the cooker hood up...that is why the PO probably moved it over...
Often see people at shows with the mirror on the table and I smile and immediately look to see if they have the cooker in use and yes...They always do..
Think it was just a way of getting it up out if the way.

Can I trouble you for a picture of that too with your trusty tape measure in shot?

Thanks

Hi Richard,

Well after closer investigation, and some measuring of the side mirror location I have found out something I had suspected before.
The reason my mirror doesn't fit at all well above the cooker is that my side cupboard on that side is not a Devon made cupboard, or at least parts of it are not.
Its 2" longer for a start, the Original side cupboard on the drivers side is 25" long, my other homemade side is 27" long which impinges on the location of the mirror mount.

The cupboard is a very good replica, and parts of it are probably Devon, I wonder if it broke or split or similar and a PO remade it?
(and I'm pretty sure you could specify how many cupboards you had installed from the factory - so wonder If I only had one from new. Type21f will confirm this I'm sure)
But looking carefully the construction of the end plate is different.

But anyhow.... I have measured you the screw locations in the trim which are original, and match the OG mirror bracket holes - the mirror bracket had been moved to the other side of the bus when I bought it.
I just put screws in the trim holes to tidy it up when I bought the bus, as I couldn't refit the mirror there due to lack of space because of the 'too long' cupboard.

So here goes - hope it helps....
