What is this anti-Brazilian thing?

Post by Homer » Sun Oct 20, 2013 4:22 pm

It's sad to see so many negative and unjustified comments on Brazilian buses. I have a 65 15 window that has been lavished with my time and money. But because it's not a 'proper' one it's rubbish.
It's 48 years old for goodness sake, give them and their owners credit for caring to both restore and look after them.
I think most would agree that most things 'Brazilian' are beautiful 8), so is my bus.

I like a Brazilian, nice landing stip:-)I have looked at a brasil bus before I got mine, It was a 59 ex taxi that had black rust in the chassis a flat floor and more filler than than Cher. It was a nice bus until it had been poorly restored and maintained. The bus would have been fine apart from its treatment post build and I think thats why they get a bad rap. After all mines Australian!

It might be worth you getting in touch with vw as my mate bought a Brazilian bus and when he looked into it the shell was made in Germany in 1957 so in theory it's a German bus all be it that it was assembled in brazil. It's got a few odd features like late rear lights and front indicators. There's a feature on it in this months vw camper and bus, it's the beige one.
As for brazil, buses not being "real" buses, I think the bad rap is like Murray said, it's because of the treatment theyve usually had re poor restorations and shonkey filler jobs.
As long as you like it who cares.

I know what you are saying but also agree that you should just enjoy your bus and not worry about anything else.

If it helps put these comments into perspective I can think of a few "discussions" that have occurred over the years on this forum about one type of van versus another, such as:

- Original over custom look
- Stock height vs lowered
- Real Sambas vs fake Sambas
- Left hand drive vs right hand drive
- American vs German vs Australian vs South African buses
- South American barndoor buses vs German barnodoor buses

I am sure there are many, many more, at the end of the day if we all liked the same thing then life would be very boring!

The only thing that annoys me about them is all the people that imported them, then faked the details to make them out to be mid-60's buses for a higher value and sold them as German buses.
Supplying quality in house designed items plus parts from SyncLink, Kennedy Clutches, & CB Performance. Also fitting service including modifications & mechanical upgrades.
