VW Endangered species aka Ron is a diamond.

My only comment would be that you must work on your BBC accent. Sounded abit carry on behind the bar :)

On a more serious note, practical examples are really important for learning new things. A good youtube example is just the ticket.

That's the issue with books, they are not the same as someone showing you how to do it.

Taking my rocker covers off took ages. And I need someone to show me how to set the tappets again.

Be patient expert people ;)

Interesting as always, I came into this via a type 1 Cabriolet that I had barely used for the past 10 years, other than rebuilding it twice (Id owned for 25 years). When I got the bus I knew it was a mess, but it had its good bits that could be taken off and bolted back on. Its rarely more than that. So that is what I did, took everything off, put it into unlabelled boxes. Sent it to the blasters, didn't have a coronary, but did have to rain check the bank balance.
Off it went to the welder, but I used to go over there to cut more metal, Im sure there are many like me who mix it.
Then I got it back, and the bolt on started (all new from Margners) But first built a Spray tent in the machine shop. Chippies spray booth!!
So now I have a BUS, 1400miles since April, OCD with a Fantastic set of lads/girls. What more is there to say.
Oh and buying a Bentley manual makes you a cheque book Charlie!!

Bear in mind when criticising 'cheque book restos' that the cheques are keeping people in work, the buses are getting saved and values are being maintained. For most of us here it's more about the build, but just because someone doesn't know one end of a spanner from the other doesn't necessarily mean they don't have taste!
