The scene

Post by Archie3781 » Wed Oct 15, 2014 7:29 am

Anyone remember when there was only a handle full of people selling t shirts and memorabilia, I dug out some old photos of RTTS back from 89, watched some old videos on you tube, don't remember so many people trying to profit from us all, it used to be a mr zogs sexwax sticky, fat willys, big boys toys, karmann connection, megabugs, and reading what antics Keith sueme got up to, a monthly glossy mag, the usual cruises around town, some trips to the pod, down to detling, Newquay, cruising down to beetlemania to see what stock they didn't have....and we were happy.
Oh how things changed.
Can't believe it, went to the last five shows around me near leeds, one show only had 1 person selling parts, the rest was completely crap tshirts, drums, toys, bouncey castles, all repro junk with some loose link or VW relevance...
It seems to purely be a money making exercise now, such a shame, nice to know though there's still a throng of old skool VW'ers going strong...

I blame children
ban the jam eaters from the car shows and you'll soon lose the folks selling all the crap to indulge the children

It did make me smile, other day, hadn't heard from a mate who lives down South, he's still driving a bug, albeit a 57 road legal drag beast.....

Call yerself 'old skool' pah! I had owned my bus for 14 years in 1985 and I thought it was all going wrong then. :)
The people who are buying split van toilet roll covers and 'cool' T shirts now will be wondering where it all went wrong in 10 years time.
Sadly times move on. The good thing, I guess, is that all of this false lifestyle crap keeps the parts supply going and every year some really keen and good VW people join us. The curtain and cushion lovers will move on........................hopefully.
Rant over.....Rudy

Agree that the continental shows and their attitude are way ahead!

Such a great video.

My old work carpark: never looked that cool with my T25 and my mate's Punto parked there.

Tell me about it, I've just bought 2 engines & a gearbox from people in "the scene" ALL 3 items have issues NOT described by the sellers

This should be promoted to a thread of its own so more people get to see it.

Amazing day, amazing cars, and a great video that captures the day perfectly. I was still buzzing afterwards on the evening, searching the web for more photos that other people had taken.

Bring on next year!
