Warning for new owners....

Post by vwJim » Mon Jun 11, 2018 7:48 am

Newbie owner buys a shiny bus from a sports car dealer for big money.... Only owned it 2 months. AFTER buying it, had it looked over at a different workshop as it wouldn't go over 50mph.

Bill was £5K....

New engine
New front beam, as the old beam was a late Bay beam held in with half the number of bolts
Leaking rear hub seals into the brakes
New master cylinder
New steering box
etc etc

I look at it yesterday....

Rear indicator bulbs are 5w number plate bulbs so the indicators flash fast
Front indicator bulbs have modern offset pins so not held securely so intermittently don't work
Brake fluid leak from the new m/c
m/c (newly fitted) plumbed in incorrectly
Brake light cable off the switch just hanging on the gear linkage
No fuse off the leisure battery to the 1500w inverter
No fuse off the leisure battery to the fridge
Radio / front charging points wired by piggybacking off
the main input cable, so no fuses their either.
Plastic fuel filter mounted next to the coil
Crappy pancake filter in the carb

But "it's all okay" as the bus "doesn't need to be MOT'd".......

Another bus, same dealer. Clean MOT at time of purchase. Taken for an independent MOT, fails.

Item it fails on is an advisory on a previous MOT but vanishes during the trader's MOT!

Caveat Emptor.
When buying ask to have the bus MOT'd somewhere you trust.. Bet that will kill a lot of sales..
