Bit the bullet!!

Post by jerrythegerman » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:55 pm

Well after skullking around this end of the site I've gone and spent the money.

Just checking what I've bought will do the job!!???

Bought a 2110 from Vw speedshop, spec as follows:-

CB case,
82mm forged CB crank,
Mahle 90.5 stroker kit,
CB H beam rods,
13lb flywheel,
044 Magnums 40x35.5
Engle FK7 cam,
1.4 rockers,
Bigfoot followers,
Manton chromoloy pushrods,
Jaycee tubes,
Twin 40 DRLA's (already have those on the present engine)
Bosch 009 with electronic ignition (already had)
kennedy stage 2.

What's that going to put out?
What's a butty midmount and do I need one?
any guess's what time's i'd be looking at?
Do I need a welded fan?

All going in '64 11 window, SA'd (3.88 diff) and CSP disc's (thankfully!!)

Well done that man :D

That should build you a good, stout motor - should get you into BWA easily.

As to power it's hard to say but it should make 120bhp and good torque with the 40's - reckon you'll run a late 16/early 17 with that given what mine did with similar power (my old engine)

Nice thing is it'll be a good starting point that you could upgrade and make quicker if the bug bites hard

You've got scope to get more power outof it with head swaps, bigger carbs, lairy cam etc.

Keep us updated, be interested in what it makes

P.S. to get the best results budget for a rolling road set-up - worth every penny

Thanks Orb, that was the idea of that spec engine (plus some sound advice from Stef at MAC).

I'm a converted man on the rolling road, it has proven it's worth on plenty of my previous car's, definately worth the outlay even if it's just to provide more drivability.

Did you run any fancy supports or mounts? or is that for the next stage up the power ladder?

While you've got improved access, ie while the engine is out, fit one of Butty's mid mounts. Will help save your nose cone mount.
Supplying quality in house designed items plus parts from SyncLink, Kennedy Clutches, & CB Performance. Also fitting service including modifications & mechanical upgrades.

Yes thanks, after much sole searching (and scraping together of funds!!)

I've just ordered the gearbox to match. A Rancho Prostreet with a longer 1st, 4th and a chromoloy pinion nut. I've opted for the 3.88 final drive too, I know it may hurt the acceleration but I need it to cruise too (it is a family camper too!!).

On the strip, with longer gearing, will I just leave it in 3 rd for longer (changing to 4th will cost me time??)

Thank's Jim, I'll look up that mount and get one ordered.

Hopefully it should be all in and running this side of xmas, get some miles on it then the rollers. Just joined the SSVC so will look to hit the strip spring time next year, eventually get the time down (that may take a while!!) and hopefully apply for the BWA.

Is there specific dates when you need to qualify so that other members are there?

3.88 will be fine - should cruise at 3500rpm @ 70mph or thereabouts depending on tyre size and you won't need 4th on the strip (mine runs to over 90mph in 3rd!)

I'm not up on the specs of the Rancho boxes but I'd make sure it has 3rd and 4th gear welded as you'll be unwinding them with that sort of power in no time!

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely

Thanks Billy, but the order has already been placed. TBH I've only heard good things about those boxes.

Yes, its got welded 3rd and 4th.

The only week link I could think of now would be the drivesahft's (and the driver!!), but I doubt I'd be in the power area of breaking them.
