Starting to look like something familiar - for sale soon

Post by jayvanman » Sun Oct 06, 2013 11:05 pm

I've been working on this for a while and decided I wasn't going to post up pics until I had the bulk head covered.

Bulk head is nearly done, just the ali trim and the top pieces either side of the middle bit.

SO23 cabinet still needs a few bits doing and the bench seat needs the frame but it's starting to take shape.

I'm working hard at my new job and don't really have the time spare so progress is really slow but I'm liking what it's starting to look like now.

Finally - not the best photo

but I thought I'd put it in as it show the long panel, it was something I had to make to as I needed the curve it made so I had something to work against on the bulk head panel

just wait until the trim, latches and hinges go on, thy TOTALLY transform it from pieces of wood to camper interior, then when varnished - WOW !

rear piece ?

I have made a start on the rear cupboard that has the 2 doors with the curved top and bottom but they are just in the CAD drawing stage, still a long way to go and I only have my late bus to work from, but I am going to crack on. I might also start on the cupboard that sits next to the bed - 2 types.

1 full height
2 under the window

Which one should I do 1st ?

Believe it or not they will be completely different as the full height will sit in the recess and the under window won't. So slightly different curves and therefore different template and completely new drawing.

here's a sample chrome latch that I got.

I got 3 of these Satin chrome ones to go on the 3 doors of the units

Hinges - I love these hinges Satin chrome.

since buying these I have come to realize that I can't it them in the way that I wanted to and so am having to do a little jiggling around to ensure that the gaps around the doors remain the same - pain in the

I have also found a suitable arm for the drop down door, but again Im going to have to do some more jiggling

I am getting there.......but to do things right takes time. so bare with me.

managed to squeeze in a few more hours in the barn at the weekend.

the hinges proved to quite fiddly, I had to get the depth of the hinges just right as it effected the gap on the doors all the way around.

got there in the end tho and also got the tops cut on the CnC machine and then laminated.

the cabinet still looks a bit rough, i think, but once the piano hinges and the edging trim is on it will look a lot different.

but for the time being here are some pics.

I will be doing kits but I'm still ironing out some creases

Hinges - hinges look good but too big. If I were to just fit them as thery are the gaps around the door wouldn't be right. So I am going to have a chat with the cutter and do another prototype (the 3rd one !)

Latches - after spending what feels like DAYS searching on line i thought i'd found something good, latches look good but the holes for the screws vary so much I won't be able to put in pilot holes and them all to match the holes in the latches  ( honestly - I didn't see that one coming !)

So yes. There will be kits, I am working on it.

Managed to get a little bit of work done on these units over the weekend.

Couple of coats of french polish on the curved wheel arch cover, you can see the difference it makes !

Also got the ali edge on the bread box case and fitted the hinge aswell.

Also found out that the 2 bulk head cover pieces should have been made to sit against the bulk head and not the B pillar. Beacaues I made them to fit on the B pillar the cabinet sits forward and inch, and it now catches the cargo door handle

I can sort it but it's just a more work to do and I just don't have the time.

Back up the barn tonight for a couple of hours.

Got some more coats of french polish on the SO23 unit.

As I mention before I have had to redo the bulk head cover pieces. The original ones I made fitted against the b pillar. I won't be selling these with the SO23 unit as they don't work together.

So these will be up for sale soon. I put the second coat of French polish on the side pieces tonight, so in theory these are ready for sale.

I'll take a photo - maybe tomorrow.
