Orbs bus in new bodywork shocker!!! (progress update)

Post by orb » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:49 pm

I've finally taken the plunge and am having some bodywork done on the bus.
I've been waiting a while to find the right guy and now that I have I just can't put it off any longer.

Popped in this morning to see how he's getting on;

Turned out not to be too much we hadn't bargained for, it's getting
Lower front panel - inner and outer
cargo door opening and a couple of small floor sections
both front arches
1 new belly pan
2 outriggers and a jacking point
2 lower windscreen repair sections
1 cargo door skin
and a few little patches that need sorting

I've a new set of wheels coming and a logo designed for Mr Melliard to paint on - should look killer

I'll update in a couple of weeks once it's done - I'm getting a bit excited now :D

Guess I'll just have to speed up the turbo fitting to counteract

Is there any point in a new logo? Are we gona be able to read it while you're doing the 1/4 mile?

Glad you werent pressurised into doing the repairs, because RIKKI turned you down for the shiney bus line up :-)

The logo has to be done - you'll know when you see it  I'm planning on more lounging around by the track that pounding up it this year. I know I'm not going to go any quicker without some work and I only ever go to get a new PB...

I said it was having bodywork - I didn't say it was going to be shiny

I just couldn't bring myself to do it Joe, not even to get in Rikki's line up...

Cool move...

Like the 50 years of dirt behind the front badge or have you not taken the badge off yet?

It'll stand out more than it did before Phil :D

Almost forgot - big shout out to the wonderful Mr VWJim who has been responsible for ensuring all the correct panels are sourced from Autocraft. You're a star mate, thanks.

The AC panels are really, really good and well worth it as they require so much less time to get to fit and are such good quality they'll last for years. Well done AC.

it's going well, should have been prepping for paint this week but I've decided on a bit more work so I think it's going to be a few weeks before I see it again.
I'm waiting for some more up to date pics, I'll post once I have them but it is looking great so far - Darren is doing an amazing job, the panel gaps he's managed to get on the doors are great and the skin he's put on one cargo door you'd never know had been done! - a true craftsman

You going to Big Bang this weekend?

Yeah get those pictures up! Can't wait to see the transformation.

I have Friday off and three options...1. Dubs in the Forest...2. Big Bang...Loads of wood arriving tomorrow, so 3. Finish my garage (Loads of Shelving) and convert my lean too into a fully water tight shed! The main bummer is I don't have any tickets for 1 & 2 but I fancy a weekend camping come rain or shine.

Still un-decided!!
