Diamond cut vs slash cut Bumpers....

Post by PastDown » Sun Feb 21, 2010 6:12 pm

Afternoon,

Right, i just need a little help regarding diamond cut and slash cut bumpers.

I was wondering which out the two are hard to get hold of?

I have a 1964 split which has a diamond cut rear bumper and a slash cut front.

I have been told its harder to find a diamond rear bumper than a slash rear, could anyone verify that for me?

the plan is to get a matching set and i was wondering which to go for.

Cheers

Yours should have slash cut front and rear. Slash rears are much easier to find and cheaper than diamonds

Where diamond cut bumpers a one year model only and is that why they are harder to find?

Cheers

Diamond cuts were made only for the 1967 year model of splitscreen (Sept 1966 to August 1967) from memory, hence they are harder to get hold of.

I heard that they have always been a bit of a mix and match....VW used to just use what they had laying around, hence the never seems to be any consistency :?

If ever it did bother you, might you like to swap your rear slash for my rear diamond ?! Then you'd have matching diamonds, and I'd have matching slashes! :)

diamond cuts are 66 and 67 only, not just 67 i always thought.

my old 66 had diamonds, and my 60 has slash front, diamond rear,

ive been after a slash rear for ages..... looking round dubfreeze yesterday there were loads of diamonds and no slashes for sale.

i even posted a thread on here saying id do a straight swap thinkin diamonds were harder to find.... no takers, so im guessing nobody actually wants diamonds after all.

Cheers for the help guys!

spit nolan - I've had about four offers wanting to swap my rear diamond for their slash bumper. Looking at your picture you have US spec bumpers, if thats the case I would speak to daveangel09, as he has a US spec with over riders that he wanted to swap.

Regarding the Diamond bumpers at Dubfreeze, most of them where from an early bay.

Cheers.

Can someone please photo the correct ends for a late 67 split. I have 3 bumpers in the shed, no clue which one is correct.

I think I may buy Harrington stainless ones.
Any help appreciated

The yellowish one is ‘slash-cut’ (ie the ends look like a slash / ) and are good for 59-66.

The grey ones are ‘diamond-cut’ (ie the ends look like half a diamond <> ) and are good for 66-67.

The only complication is that early bay ones also have diamond-cut ends so look very similar to late split screen ones. I don’t know what the difference between those two would be.

If you don’t want the slash cut one I am looking to buy one so let me know.
