1200 Rebuild - Recommendations please

Post by BigOldMac » Fri May 31, 2019 12:32 pm

Hello, I'm based in Bedford and need a '56 1200 rebuilding. It has already be rebuilt (twice!) by someone who will, for now, remain nameless and has been a complete disaster. Drove for 100 miles before it started getting noisy and compression down to 80%, lot's of metallic gunk and some white metal fragments in the sump. So wondered who you wold recommend to inspect it and rebuild.

You will struggle to find someone to rebuild this as it has been screwed up by someone else. I would not even try and would not like to get involved in a dispute with the other 'builder'. Better to find another engine for rebuild.

BJ! Thanks for the rely. I wouldn't let the 1st issue get in the way of the rebuild. The engine is original to the car so I want to keep it at all costs and there is no dispute between the person who rebuilt it and I that the problem was of his making.

It is at least worth it to me to see if the issues are recoverable or not. ??

I'm keeping Pete at Cogbox in mind for when I'm ready to get my 50's fixed generator-stand engine rebuilt. Truth is, I don't know if he's still doing engines but he has a very good reputation as far as I know.

Have you opened the engine up yet to see what the issues are?
