Wolfsburg and Hanover production

Am I right in understanding that VW buses were initially built until 1956 at the Wolfsburg factory, but from 1956, production was shifted over to the completely new Transporter factory in Hanover?

Thanks So what did they do at Wolfsburg after 56, or was it not used for manufacturing after this?

Carried on with Beetle production. Wolfsburg is still the main VW factory to this day, well worth a visit if you are in that part of Germany. The Autostadt is superb.

Ah, so they switched bus building to Hanover and used Wolfsburg for Beetles, cool thanks! Yeah, not been to Germany yet, but that would be on the list of places to go see. Might try and combine something with Hessisch Oldendorf if I get myself organised!

8th March 1956 they switched to Hanover production Mine's a September 55 Wolfsburg bus.
