Builder types

Post by mjknight71 » Sat May 11, 2019 8:51 am

Two single garages in a block of two garages, single block walls, rear wall retaining garden about 1m high.

Does the separating wall between the garages offer strength to the rear retaining wall?

So can I knock in partition wall down to make a double?......not bother about issues with roof etc.

Any thoughts

Is the roof supported on the middle wall?

Almost certainly the wall is providing lateral support to the rear retaining wall, although you may be able to provide the same support with a buttress, for piece of mind I’d get a structural engineer to take a look.

cheers, i assumed the center wall would be providing support. Just wanted to see others thoughts who might have some knowledge rather than my assumption.
